Suzanne Collins’ popular young adult book trilogy is on track to be billed as one of the best sellers of 2012. It generated a massive box-office movie featuring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

Ellie Berger, President of Scholastic Trade Publishing, said in a statement:

Readers across the nation are captivated by the rich world and strong characters Suzanne Collins has created. It’s thrilling to see teen and adult readers enthralled by the same story and engaged in conversation about these books.

The Hunger Games books series has doubled in sales since the start of year, thanks to the chart-topping movie. Also, the critics’ acclamation of the film allowed the trilogy to reach a major milestone. Another highlight it achieved was becoming a permanent fixture on The New York Times best-seller. It is included in the list for 200 successive weeks.

Even though the next Hunger Games movie is slated to be out in theaters a year from now, expect the numbers to be steady. Why? Well, the production of the sequel, Catching Fire, is generating some buzz with casting rumors in place. Recent news includes Philip Seymour Hoffman playing Plutarch Heavensbee and Amanda Plummer snagging the role of Wiress.

Don’t expect the appetite of Hunger Games fans to hold up with these developments.
